From March 1991 to August 1995, twenty-eight cases of intraarticular comminuted distal radius fractures were treated by percutaneous pinning with closed reduction under fluoroscopy.
From all cases, twenty two fractures(79%) were healed satisfactorily with no special problems. But in cases of fractures showing severe comminution or osteoporosis, the result was not good.
We conclude that percutaneous pin fixation is an excellent technique for an unstable fractures in combination with external immobilization, provided the distal radius is not severly comminuted or osteoporotic.
