통속오락잡지 『명랑』을 통해 본 戰後(전후) 사랑의 인식구조 -1950년대 수록 소설을 중심으로- = The Cognitive Structure of Love in Postwar Years in the Pop Magazine Myeongnang: with focus on the fictions in the 1950s

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 1950년대 통속오락잡지『명랑』의 소설들이 연애와 결혼을 서사화 해낸 방식을 파악함으로써 戰後 세속적이고 일상화된 삶의 영역에서 성, 사랑, 결혼에 대한 감각과 의식이 어떻게 굴절되고 있었는지를 살펴보았다. 『명랑』은 배우자 선택의 자유를 바탕으로 자발적으로 연대하는 가족의 재구성을 국가 재건의 기초로 역설했던 당대 지식인 담론을 기본적으로 공유했으나, 국가적 대의명분보다는 연애 대중화가 촉발한 자 유감과 섹슈얼리티에 더 많은 관심을 기울였다. 『명랑』 의 소설들은 자발적 선택의 문제로 변화된 사랑과 결혼의 문화에 대한 경쾌한 기 대감을 그려내면서도, 일상적 삶의 현장으로 옮겨오게 된 연애라는 근대적 관계 앞에서 당대 대중 독자들이 직면했던 이질감과 두려움, 윤리적 거부감과 감각적 호기심의 이율배반을 정직하게 드러냈다. 개방적인 사랑의 풍속에 대한 기대와 활력의 한편에서『명랑』은 관음증적 렌즈를 통해 사랑과 성에 대한 대중들의 세속적 호기심에 적극적으로 부응하려 했다. 애욕에 초점을 맞춘 소설들은 여성들의 육체와 성적 욕망을 예각화함으로써 여성 섹슈얼리티에 대한 호기심을 충족시키는 동시에 그러한 여성들이 비극적 파 탄을 맞는 결말구조를 통해 여성 섹슈얼리티를 제어하고자 하는 양면적 태도를 보였다. 탕녀들의 육체에 비극적 결말을 부여하는 서사 양식은 여성 섹슈얼리티 의 자율성을 규제하면서도 그에 대한 관음증적 욕망에 면죄부를 부여하는 기만적 이중성을 드러낸다. 청춘 남녀의 유쾌한 만남과 사랑의 실현을 다룬 명랑소설들은 철저히 남성적 시각에 기초한 남성 판타지에 의해 진행되고 있었다. 성적, 정서적으로 적극적인 여성 태도에 기반을 둔 가볍고 경쾌한 사랑의 성취는 개방된 사랑의 가능성 앞에 신중하거나 소극적인 남성 주인공들의 불안을 제거하고 무거운 현실 문제로부터 일정한 간격을 유지하는 거리감의 확보를 가능하게 했다. 그러나 남성의 관점에 서 주도되는 이 같은 명랑성은 사랑의 파트너여야 할 여성을 이해와 소통의 주체 가 아니라 사물화된 대상이나 규범 성이 강제되어야 할 타자로 변형시켰다. 지나 치게 활달하고 적극적인 여성성을 희화화의 대상으로 삼음으로써 소설은 다시 젠 더 규범을 강화했으며, 낭만적 사랑의 이데올로기는 여성을 가정 안에 묶어 두는 데 이용될 뿐, 그로부터 벗어나는 잉여의 욕망들이 죄의식을 위장하는 유우머와 남성적 명랑성의 코드에 의해 은밀하게 공유되고 있었다. 이 같은 이야기 구조는 여성의 위치를 남성의 보조적 역할로 재확인함으로써 남성 주도권의 회복을 도모 하는 젠더 정치학과 낭만적 사랑의 규율이 한 쪽의 성에게만 강제되는 불균등한 섹슈얼리티가 이 시기 세속세계의 사랑의 인식구조를 관통하고 있었음을 알려 준다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this research I explored how the postwar romantic discourse had been accepted and refracted in the daily life of the public, and in what way the popular narrative and discourses came to establish their own new structure of sensibility about sex, love, and marriage by examining the pop magazine Myeongnang, especially focusing the fictions in the 1950s. As it claimed to be a pop magazine, not limiting itself to the theoretical dimension, Myeongnang could show how the problems of sexuality, love and marriage were refracted and actualized in the real life of the public of the day since it designed and carried on its pages various lectures and counseling about love affairs and romantic novels. Accordingly, Myeongnang`s articles and novels about love affairs are precious data which witness how the discourse of love, theoretically advocated by intellectuals` magazines like Sasanggye and women`s magazines like Yeowon, was accepted and refracted in the everyday life of the public. Myeongnang made a contribution to the development of popular literature by providing a good deal of its space for a variety of popular novels. Authors to which it offered its pages included popular writers of high reputation like Heunpa Jo, Pung-yeon Jo, Ho Yu and Ingeun Bang as well as contemporary renowned writers like Hansuk Jeong, Gyeju Park and Biseok Jeong, and young writers like Se-uk Cheon and Neungsik Jo made the magazine their main stage for literary career. The magazine printed popular novels with various genre titles like aejeong (love) novel, cheongchun (youth) novel, sunjeong (pure love) novel, etc. These novels show the most secularized form of the contemporary popular novels, and enable us to comprehend the response and the structure of sensibility of the day toward the issues of aberrant sexuality, love and marriage. Novels of Myeongnang visualized the sensibility of sexuality and love overflowing in and out of the boundary of the dominant discourse, but they sutured this rupture through the unique sense of balance of the public at the same time. The research focuses upon the question of what mechanism of suture constituted the structure of sensibility of the day. Considering the experiential representation of social discourse and popular narrative in a complicated way, the research tries to deepen our understanding of the inter-relationship among institution, discourse and work of art. It will provide a useful lesson on the basis of which we can embrace popular literature ignored so far to make up a new literary history which not just focuses exclusively on aesthetics but encompasses cultural and social perspectives.
