하이델베르크 요리문답과 웨스트민스터 소요리문답서의 비교: 회심과 성화 용어를 중심으로 = A Comparative Study of Heidelberg Catechism`s Q.88 and Westminster Shorter Catechism`s Q 35

국문 초록 (Abstract)

하이델베르크 요리문답서와 웨스트민스터 소요리문답서는 교회사 속에서 개혁신학에 근거한 대표적인 교리교육서이다. 하이델베르크 요리문답서는 종교 개혁의 제 3세대의 작품이며, 웨스트민스터 소요리문답서는 청교도운동 가운데 작성된 것이다. 따라서 두 문서 모두 교회 개혁 가운데 작성된 문서들이다. 그래서 작성하였던 목적과 내용이 크게 다르지 않다. 그래서 두 문서 모두 진정한 구원의 은혜와 그 효과에 대해서 강조하고 있다. 왜냐하면 두 문서 모두 잘못된 가르침과 그것으로 인한 거짓 경건에 대해개혁하려는 목적을 가지고 있기 때문이다. 그래서 두 문서 구원의 은혜에 대해서 구체적으로 설명하고 있다. 그런데 하이델베르크 요리문답서 88번은 구원의 은혜의 증거로서 회심을 말하였고, 웨스트민스터 소요리문답서 35번에서는 구원의 은혜의 실제적 효과인 성화를 말하고 있다. 같은 내용이지만 하이델베르크 요리문답서에서는 회심이라는 용어를 사용하였고, 웨스트민스터 소요리문답서에서는 성화라는 용어를 사용하였다. 이러한차이는 종교 개혁운동이 영국으로 넘어가고, 그 당시 영국교회에 알미니안주의 운동이 일어나서 구원의 은혜에 대해서 더욱 구체적으로 그리고 구원의 서정의 형식을 취함으로 인한 것이다. 물론 하이델베르크 요리문답서에서도 구원의 서정의 틀이 있지만, 영국 교회의 상황 속에서 더욱 체계적으로 서술함으로 인하여 같은 내용을 가지고 있음에도 불구하고 용어의 차이가 일어난 것이다. 그리고 웨스트민스터 소요리문답서에서는 그리스 도와의 연합의 은덕에 참여하는 것으로 일어나는 성화라고 더욱 구체적으로 서술하여서, 하이델베르크 요리문답서보다 더욱 분명하여 졌다. 이렇게 16, 17세기의 개혁신학에 있어 중요한 요리문답서는 20세기에 이르러서 오히려 피상적으로 가르쳐졌다. 성화 (회심)의 두 부분 (요소)에 대한 강조가 누락되기도 하였으며, 그리스도와의 연합교리 없이 구원의 서정만강조되었다. 따라서 오늘날 구원의 은혜의 증거가 강조될 필요가 있는데, 이렇게 왜곡된 가르침을 바로 잡아야 한다. 그리고 이 시대에 두 요리문답서가 다시 가르쳐져서 구원의 은혜의 진정성이 강조되고 증거되어야 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In church history, the Heidelberg Catechism and the Westminster Shorter Catechism have been received as standard Reformed catechisms. The Heidelberg Catechism was composed by Ursinus and Olevianus, third generation of Reformers. The Westminster Shorter Catechism was composed by the Divines of the Westminster Assembly in the puritan movement. Both catechisms were made for enlightening the ignorance while pursuing church reformation in Heidelberg and England. Both catechisms not only taught the way of salvation but also defined true faith. In particular, Heidelberg Catechism`s question 88 deals with the true evidences of repentance. This doctrine of conversion is also explained in Westminster Shorter Catechism question 35 under sanctification. Moreover, as background of Westminster Shorter Catechism question 35, questions 30, 31 are explained in light of union with Christ. The differences between how the catechisms approach this issue come from the different historical backgrounds in which they were drafted. When the Westminster Shorter Catechism was composed, the England church was defending Reformed theology against Arminianism. Thus, the divinities of the Assembly explained the order of salvation in more detail than the writers of the Heidelberg catechism. However, in the 20th century, the Reformed church could not trace these points in either catechism. They ignored the importance of sanctification and neglected the doctrine of union with Christ. Therefore, the Reformed church today must rediscover the teachings of both catechisms regarding conversion and sanctification.
