In this work, numerical investigation for the optimization of automotive plastic tube was performed for the weight reduction. To achieve this, water cooling tube for gasoline and diesel and PCV line were chose for the analysis. The effect of pitch, thickness, diameter, and properties of material on the thermal stress in corrugated tube were studied and the results from these were compared with the results from smooth tube under the same test conditions.
It was revealed that the effect of temperature on the thermal stress is larger than the effect of pressure. As the thickness of tube increased, the thermal stress in the tube also increase. On the other hand, as the tube pitch increased, the thermal stress decreased.
