니트웨어의 변천에 관한 연구 = (A)study on the evolution of knitwear

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 니트웨어 판매율의 증가는 니트웨어에 대한 소비자 선호도의 증가와 유행 그리고 IMF 경제난국을 무난히 지날 수 있게 하였다. 이러한 마켓현상으로 각 의류 제조업체들에서는 니트의 중요성을 깨닫고 기획물량을 늘리거나 생산시설에 투자하고 있는 실정이다.
이에 본 연구자는 최근 수요가 급격히 증가하고 있는 니트웨어에 대한 연구를 통해 소비자들에게 인기품목이 된 니트의 특성을 파악해 현대패션에서의 니트의 의의를 찾고, 패션시장에서의 고부가가치 패션문화상품으로서의 니트의 의미를 분석하여, 21세기 미래산업으로서의 니트의 발전 가능성을 제시하는데 연구의 목적을 두었다.
그 방법으로는 니트에 대한 개념과 특성, 종류, 구조와 조직을 알아보기 위해 일반적인 고찰을 하였고, 니트가 발생된 배경과 역사적 흐름을 고찰하였고, 니트 디자인의 시대적 특징을 살펴봄으로써 니트웨어의 기능적인 장점을 파악하였다.
본 연구결과는 다음과 같다.
현대에 들어서 니트웨어는 그 소재의 신축성으로 인해서 활동적이고 기능적일 뿐만 아니라 소재의 복합성으로 인한 디자인의 다양성과 조형성은 고급화, 개성화 해가는 현대 의상의 유행 조류에 적합하여 TPO와 남녀노소의 경계를 무너뜨린 다목적성의 특징을 가지고 있다. 이로 인하여 니트는 그 수요가 점차 증가해가고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 니트의 장점 중 하나인 아트적인 조형성과 심미성은 단순한 물리적 가치에 심리적 효용가치를 첨가해 고부가가치의 패션상품을 개발해 낼 수 있는 가능성을 제시해 준다. 수요의 증가는 니트기계화의 발전을 가져오는 원동력이 되어 다양한 소재의 발달과 더불어 미래산업으로서의 니트웨어의 무한한 발전가능성을 예측할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구의 결과 현대 니트웨어의 의의는 다음과 같다.
첫째. 니트에는 현대인들이 요구하는 다양함이 있다.
스포츠와 레저 지향의 라이프스타일과 일과 휴식의 경계가 모호해지고 있는 현대인들에게 니트의 기능적인 신축성은 스포츠웨어에 좋은 기능성 소재이다. 동시에 개성적이고 고급스러운 이미지를 표현할 수 있는 다양성을 갖추고 있다.
둘째. 니트는 현대패션의 흐름인 '3-less'를 표현하는데 가장 적합한 소재이다.
남녀 함께 입거나 남녀 경계가 없는 중성적 이미지인 'Genderless'를 수용하기에도 좋은 니트웨어는 나이 차를 뛰어넘어 모녀가 함께 입을 수도 있어 'Ageless'한 스타일에도, 계절과도 상관없이 다양하게 코디하기에 좋아 'Seasonless'에도 적합한 품목이다. 이렇게 현대의 니트웨어는 나이와 계급차를 제거하고 TPO를 수용하여 남녀노소 함께 입을 수 있음으로 해서 더욱 인기있는 품목이 되었다.
셋째. 현대 니트웨어는 아트적인 표현성이 가능하다.
처음 구미의 섬유예술가들에 의해 실시된 미술의상에서의 니트 기법은 오늘날 현대 니트웨어 디자인에 조형성과 심미적인 표현을 가능하게 해주었다.
넷째. 현대의 니트웨어는 고부가가치 창출 가능한 상품이다.
계속 개발되는 니트소재와 편직기의 발달로 인한 표면의 다양한 표현성은 패션성이 큰 여성용 정장 웨어까지 이용됨으로 고부가가치 패션제품으로 발전하는 것이 세계적인 추세이다.
다섯째. 현대 니트웨어는 미래지향적인 산업이다.
20세기 들어 과학과 공업의 발달과 더불어 전자식의 무늬 작성의 실용화등 다양한 편기들이 개발되었고, 최근에는 컴퓨터에 의한 기계 자동화 시스템이 이루어져 다양한 크기, 정밀하고 섬세한 표현, 다양한 무늬 및 편성이 가능해졌으며 이는 현재 니트웨어의 다양화 고급화가 이루어지는 초석이 되었다. 뿐만아니라, 니트웨어에 대한 수요증가는 편직기 개발을 가속화하여 미래에는 기계 자체에서 편직, 재단, 봉제까지 이루어지는 혁신적인 기계의 개발이 이루어질 전망이며, 이때에는 니트가 우븐을 뛰어넘는 수요와 공급을 창출할 수 있으리라 기대해 볼 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The recent increase of knit-wear sales has enabled the increase in consumers' preference as well as making knit-wear fashionable, and helped manufacturers to overcome the IMF crisis. Encouraged by this market phenomenon, apparel manufacturers have realized the importance of knit-wear and are either increasing the quantities of merchandise or making an investment in production facilities.
Through the study around the strong demand on knit-wear, I wish to find the significance in current fashion through the characteristics of how knit-wear has become a popular item to consumers, and analyze the meaning it has, as a value-added fashion-culture item in the market, in order to suggest the potential development of knit-wear in the 21st century.
In order to do so, the method taken for this research was to do a general study of the concept, characteristics, variety, structure and texture of knitting, as well as inquiring the background, historical flow and examining the characteristics of knit design by period to find the functionality of knit-wear.
As a result, the following findings were obtained:
Knit-wear today, is characterized not only by activity and functionality with the flexibility of its material but also with the multi-function of breaking the barrier between age, sex and TPO with its variety and formability of design. This leads itself to the trend of contemporary fashion which is becoming advanced and individualized, resulting in the gradual increase in demand for knit-wear.
Artistic formability and aesthetics gives the potential to knit-wear development as a value-added fashion merchandise, by having aesthetic utility value as well as psychological value, which is another advantage.
The increase in demand for knits has brought forward the development of knitting mechanization and enabled the limitless development of knit-wear as the future growth industry with the development of various materials. As a result this study presents the following significance of contemporary knit-wear:
First, Knit-wear has the diversity which is required by consumers today.
The flexibility of knit serves good functionality as sportswear for those who seek sports and leisure lifestyle and with the work-rest boundary that is starting to break. At the same time, knit has the diversity of expressing the personal and premium image.
Second, knit is the most appropriate material that helps to express '3-less' in contemporary fashion. Knit-wear accommodates 'gender-less', with the neutral image of bisexual functionality, 'Ageless' in the sense that it can be worn by parents and children and 'Seasonless' because it is good to coordinate regardless of seasons. This is what makes knit-wear today, a more popular item due to its capability of expressing ageless, taking away social status barriers and can be worn by all sex accommodating TPO.
Third, contemporary knit-wear is artistically expressible. The knitting technique in art clothing conducted by fiber artists in the United States and in Europe has enabled the formability and aesthetic expression in contemporary knit-wear design.
Fourth, contemporary knit-wear is a product that creates high added value. With the persistent development of knitting materials and machines, knit-wear shows the global tendency towards developing high value-added fashion commodity, as a diversity of expression that is applied to women's formal wear.
Fifth, contemporary knit-wear is a future-oriented industry. With scientific and industrial development in the 20th century, a variety of knitting machines were developed to make electronic patterning possible, and such. Recently the computer-aided machine automation system has been developed which enabled various sizes, precise and delicate expression, diverse patterns and composition. This has become the cornerstone for knit-wear to be diversified and highly advanced today. In addition, increase in demand for knit-wear will speed up the development of new state-of-the-art knitting machines, leading to the development of innovative machinery that makes knitting, cutting and stitching possible within the machine. With this, we can expect that knitting will create more demand and supply than woven fabrics going forward.
