외고 입시체제와 교육과정의 문제점과 개선 방안 = Suggestion for improvement and the problem analysis of curricular and admission system of Foreign Language High Schools

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this research is to raise the drawbacks of curricular and admission system of Foreign Language High Schools, classified as special purpose high school, and to suggest a better education policy for Foreign Language High Schools.
For this study we carried out questionnaires of Foreign Language High School students, analyzed the admission system and curricular of Foreign Language High Schools, and interviewed Foreign Language High School teachers, students, and parents.
The results of this research are as follows. Firstly, in terms of admission procedures, there still remains the driving force behind private education in spite of education policy to reduce the soaring costs for private education and to restore the dilapidated educational system. Foreign Language High Schools retain their problematic admission system in order to prepare their students for entering the prestigious universities. So these elite schools focus on choosing academically gifted students rather than picking out students having the facility for languages. Secondly, the analysis of curricular of Foreign Language Hjgh Schools shows that they are not similar to general public high schools in that students' taking 82 credits of specified subjects are mandatory. However, as Foreign Language High Schools are practically focusing on a college entrance examination, they can not differentiate themselves from general public high schools. Based on above study, we have prposed a way to improve the system.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 특수목적고등학교로 분류되고 있는 외국어고등학교의 입시 체제와 교육과정의 문제점을 밝혀내고, 개선방안을 제안하기 위한 목적을 가진다. 본 연구의 목적달성을 위해서 외고생 대상 설문조사, 입시 요강․교육과정․학교운영계획서 분석, 외고 교사․학생․학부모 면담을 실시하였다.
외고 입시 요강을 분석한 결과, 외고 정상화와 사교육 경감을 표방하는 정부의 의도에도 불구하고 문제점이 완전히 해결된 것은 아니었으며, 사교육 유발 요인이 여전히 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 외고가 문제가 되는 입시 요강을 계속 고집하고 있는 이유는 대학 입시에서 우수한 성과를 내기 위함이다. 따라서 어학 영재 발굴보다는 공부를 잘하는 학생을 선발하는 데 초점을 맞추고 있었다. 외고의 교육과정을 분석한 결과, 82단위의 전문 교과 이수를 하고 있다는 점에서 일반고와 차별화된 면이 존재했지만, 실질적으로는 교육과정이 입시 구조에 종속되었다는 점에서 큰 차별성이 있는 것은 아니었다. 이러한 분석 결과를 토대로 개선 방안을 제시하였다.
