In order to investigate the effects of thyroxine and methimazole on female reproductive system, healthy female albino rats were selected at random. The body weights of these animals at around 100 days of age ranged between 145 175 at the beginning of the experiment. The female 18 rats used in this work were alloted to groups of three. Rats in one group were served as control and the other two groups were administered orally thyroxine of 1㎎/100g/day and methimazole of 0.2㎎/100g/day respectively for 4 weeks. Healthy 12 male rats at 4 months of age were put into both cages of three groups from the 16th day after administered for 10 days to let therm cross naturally.
The results obtained in this work were summarized as follows :
1. There was not any remarkable difference of increasing body weight among three groups.
2. Also there was not any difference of mean body weight of newborns among three groups.
3. On litter size, there was not any difference between thyroxine and control groups, but there was a decreasing tendency in methimazole group compared with the other two groups.
