The aim of this study was to analyze factors affecting suicidal attempts among adolescents with suicidal thoughts and to explore a path of suicide attempt in order to prevent adolescent suicide and to improve mental health. This study used 2014 Korean Youth Health Risk Behavior On Line Survey: and out of the total 72,060 sample size, this study used 9,438 adolescents who reported suicidal thoughts. A dependent variable included suicidal attempts, major independent variables included violence experience, stress, depression, and suicidal plans, and mediating variables included social support such as family support, friend support, teacher support and other support. This study conducted path analysis using structural equation modeling in order to examine paths of these variables. Major findings of this study reported that adolescents with suicidal thoughts who had violence experience, reported high level of stress, felt depressed and had suicidal plans were more likely to increase suicidal attempts. As for social support as a mediating factor, family support and other support decreased suicidal attempts when adolescents had violence experience, while social support increased suicidal attempts when adolescent experienced stress and depression. Based on these findings, policy and practice implications about adolescent suicide prevention were discussed.
