The purpose of this study is to demonstrate whether participatory events are an effective means, improving Social Capital, with Yokohama Triennale in 2008. We also illustrate the possibility of improving social capital and how social capital can change the society with limited time for preparation and execution of events.
The results of study are as follows; first of all, it is able to identify that various resources are embedded and trust and norm are improved in the network where volunteers involve participatory events. We are also able to find the social capital made up with resource, trust and norm. Secondly, it confirms that two social capitals, combination and mediation, improved by participatory events are existed. Thirdly, it identifies that social capital improved by participatory events can have horizontal and vertical features. Consequently, it demonstrates that successful process of participatory event is in line with the process of improving social capital.
