실험경제학과 행동경제학의 정책응용에 대한 경제학사·경제철학적 연구

This study successfully clarifies what kind of picture Vernon Smith draws about the implication of his life-long endeavors in the laboratory (partly aimed to influence the policy-making process) and other research outcomes directly or indirectly linked to his laboratory pursuits. His big picture contains a few conceptual pairs such as personal exchanges versus impersonal exchanges, and constructivist rationality versus ecological rationality. Smith locates at the foundation of personal and impersonal exchanges, the human universal propensity to engage in exchanges; and he nicely places the two forms of rationality within an evolutionary argument. Smith's perspective restores the study of institutions to a central position in economics. Furthermore, he presents an optimistic view upon the prospect of designing/constructing markets and (other) market-like institutions, which one should keep in mind in gauging the place of Smith's experimental economics within the neoliberal movement.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 결과 실험경제학자 버논 스미스가 실험경제학의 진행, 변모, 그리고 응용, 그 와중에 생성된 지식들, 자신의 연구와 관련된 비실험경제학에서 축적된 지식들, 이 모두로부터 어떤 ‘큰 그림’을 그리고 있으며, 이는 어떤 학문적 관점을 의미하는지를 알 수 있었다. 그의 큰 그림에는 인격적 교환과 비인격적 교환, 그리고 구성적 합리성과 생태적 합리성과 같은 개념쌍들이 존재한다. 스미스는 이 두 교환의 배후에 보편적 교환성향이라는 개념을 위치시키며, 두 합리성은 진화론적 설명방식을 통해 양립가능한 것으로 파악한다. 이러한 큰 그림 그리기를 통해 스미스는 경제학에서 시장을 비롯한 다양한 제도를 경제학의 중심 연구 대상으로 복원한다. 그 뿐만 아니라 스미스는 시장(제도) 설계와 만들기의 가능성에 대해 낙관적 관점을 제시하는데, 이 점은 스미스의 실험경제학과 신자유주의의 관계를 파악하는 데에 있어 중요한 역할을 한다.
