비판적 사고는 과학 교육에서 근본적인 기술로 여겨져 왔다. 이러한 맥락에서, 많은 과학 교육자들은 과학 교육이 비판적 사고력을 포함해야 한다고 말한다. 그러나, 예비 및 현직 물리 교사를 위한 비판적 사고를 포함하는 교사 교육 프로그램은 거의 없다. 이러한 이유로, 예비 및 현직 물리 교사를 위한 비판적 사고 교육 프로그램을 개발할 필요가 있다.
본 연구의 목적은 예비 및 현직 물리 교사의 비판적 사고력을 향상시키기 위한 비판적 사고 교육 프로그램을 개발하는 것이다. 이를 위해 Dick & Carey의 체제적 교수 설계 모형을 사용하여 프로그램을 개발하였다. 프로그램이 예비 및 현직 물리 교사의 비판적 사고력에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 개발된 프로그램은 31명의 예비 물리 교사와 8명의 현직 물리 교사를 대상으로 적용하였다. 자료는 비판적 사고자기평가척도(CTSAS), 사고 지도에 서면답변, 토론내용, 만족도 조사를 통해 수집한 것이다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다.
개발된 비판적 사고 교육 프로그램은 교육 모델과 내용으로 구성되었다. 프로그램의 교육 모델은 (1) 문제와 설명 텍스트, (2) 사고 지도 작성, (3) 토론, (4) 검증 과정의 네 단계로 나뉜다. 비판적 사고 교육 프로그램에 사용된 내용은 7가지 문제와 설명 텍스트로 구성되어 있다.
CTSAS 결과에 따라, 프로그램을 적용하여 예비 및 현직 물리 교사의 비판적 사고력 증진에 유의미한 효과가 있었다. 특히 물리 교사들은 비판적 사고력의 6가지 하위 요소 중 5가지 요인 해석(Interpretation), 분석(Analysis), 평가(Evaluation), 추론(Inference), 설명(Explanation)에서 증진에 유의미한 효과를 보였다. 현직 물리 교사들은 비판적 사고력의 6가지 요소 중 4가지 요인 해석(Interpretation), 평가(Evaluation), 추론(Inference), 자기 조절(Self-regulation)이 증진에 유의미한 효과를 보였다. 사고과정 분석 결과는 예비 물리 교사는 제공된 설명적 텍스트의 숨은 가정을 찾는 경향이 있고, 현직 물리 교사는 그 논증에 대항하기 위해 반론을 찾는 경향이 있음을 보여준다. 만족도 조사에 따르면 대부분의 예비 및 현직 물리 교사들은 이 프로그램이 비판적 사고력을 높이고 물리 개념을 깊이 이해하는 데 도움이 된다고 생각하였다.
결론적으로 개발된 프로그램은 예비 및 현직 물리 교사의 비판적 사고력을 향상시키는 효과적인 프로그램으로 볼 수 있다. 이 연구는 두 가지 의미가 있다. 물리 교사 교육에서 비판적 사고를 향상시키기 위한 실현 가능한 교수법을 제공하고, 물리학에서 비판적 사고 기술을 가르치기 위한 몇 가지 지침 자료를 제공할 수 있다.
