표상과 수행 개념을 중심으로 한 뉴미디어 구조의 해석 = A Study of New Media Structure Based on the Notion of Representation and Performance

Theoretic discourses about new media has been continuously developed as digital technology has been matured and spreaded in every aspect of our life. Publications of Manovich, Aarseth, Bolter and Grusin take importance among these discourses. The scholars provide their unique and meaningful points of view about new media phenomena with using their own vocabularies and concepts. This paper will inquire into their major viewpoints and concepts about new media and will discover and remap the structure and mechanism of new media which run through their theories from the notion of representation and performativity. It is expected to suggest epistemological and ontological interpretation about the new media as generalized meta-medium.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

2000년대 이후 디지털 기술이 성숙하고 보편화되면서, 이와 함께 뉴미디어에 대한 이론적 논의도 학문적으로 활발해졌다. 마노비치(Manovich)와 올셋(Aarseth), 그리고 볼터&그루신(Bolter & Grusin)의 뉴미디어에 대한 저술들은 이러한 학문적 논의에서 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 이들의 관점은 이들만의 차별적 용어와 개념으로 미디어 현상에 대해 다양한 해석과 의미를 제시하고 있다. 본고는 이들 문헌에서 각 이론가들의 입장을 정리하여 이들의 주장을 관통하는 일관되고 공통적인 뉴미디어의 근본적인 구조와 작동 원리를 재현(represenation)과 수행(performance)의 맥락적에서 분석하고자 한다. 이렇게 이들 시각의 주요한 공통분모와차이를 비교해봄으로써 뉴미디어 또는 더 나아가 메타미디엄에 대한 보편화된 존재론적 인식론적 해석에기여할 것으로 본다.
