The objective of this study is to find whether or not there is any difference in mothers` nursing behavior and infants` adaptability in day care center depending on the age and sex of infants for the purpose of providing parents and nursing teachers with meaningful information. The first subject of this study will be whether or not there is any difference in nursing behavior depending on the age of infants. The second subject will be if there is any difference in nursing behavior depending on the sex of infants. The third will be whether or not there is any difference in infants` adaptability in day care center depending on their age. The forth will be whether or not there is any difference in infants` adaptability in day care center depending on their sex. 361 mothers who have their infants (aged between 18 to 36 months) entrusted with 50 day care centers in Seoul and Kyunggi-do and nursing teachers were questioned. The period of research was from February 3 to February 28, 2005. 750 sets of questionnaires designed for mothers were distributed and 361 of them were collected. Another 750 sets of questionnaires designed for nursing teachers were distributed and 361 of them were collected. Therefore, 722 sets of questionnaires in total were analyzed. The analyzing tool is the Nursing Behavior Analysis Tool adopted by Won-Young Lee (1983) and the School Adaptability Test Tool used by Seo-ok Ha (2000). SPSSWIN 12.0 was used in analyzing data and the frequency analysis and t-verification were performed. In summary, the findings of the research are as follows. First, the nursing behaviors of mothers depending on the age of infants were found not to show any meaningful difference. Second, the nursing behaviors of mothers depending on the sex of infants were found to show a meaningful difference. Mothers showed more affection to male infants than to female ones. Third, the adaptability of infants depending on their age showed a meaningful difference within the range of the infants who are less than 2 years old. Fourth, the adaptability of infants depending on their sex showed a meaningful difference in male infants.
