예수와 여성 = Jesus and Women

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

According to the attitude of ancient people women were unclean, vicious and malicious, inferior to men. So they were kept in their habitats and prohibited from participating in public life. As the Jews of the time of Jesus generally shared this attitude, they didn’t allow any public role to women. Since second century the established Christianity also had this attitude. It regulated women as source of evil and relegated them to an inferior position in the world. But recently scholars who have deep interest in the history of women have published many works. These works suggested that the women of the early Christianity had more higher position than generally acknowledged. Furthermore they played public role in the church. For example they were leaders of household churches, and preached in the pulpit.
This paper placed high value on these works and reexamined the role of four women who helped greatly Jesus, and made attempts to give them new meaning.
First, Mary, the mother of Jesus was generally regarded as a silent being who played no role after giving birth to Jesus. But according to the Gospel of John she was an active leader of Jesus. When Jesus hesitated to show himself to the world, she advised Jesus to make water into wine. This advice was an active act to give Jesus strong stimulus to play his role in the world.
Second, a Samaritan woman gave Jesus a cup of water. Then she asked Jesus the right place in which one ought to worship God. As Jesus replied the right answer, she realized Jesus was Christ and said to Samaritans the fact. So she made clear that the role of Messiah was to abolish the boundaries among nations, and Jesus was the very Messiah.
Third, Mary, the sister of Lazarus was an intelligent women. When Jesus taught the gospel she participated actively in hearing his saying. When Jesus was to accomplish his final mission, that is the Passion, she poured an expensive perfume on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. According to Matthew, an women poured an expensive perfume on Jesus’s head. I think this woman is the very Mary, the sister of Lazarus, and her pouring was crowning Jesus King of Jews.
Fourth, Mary Magdalene was a companion of Jesus when Jesus lived. As Jesus was crucified all his male disciples fled away. But she attended Jesus at his death, came to the Jesus’s tomb, and met the resurrected Jesus before any disciple. This means Jesus regarded her the most important disciple. In sum women played important roles in decisive moments of Jesus Life. Jesus allowed them to take charge of public roles. Therefore the attitude of Jesus on Women was very different from that of later Christians.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 여성과 기독교의 관계를 연구하는 대부분의 학자들에 따르면 예수는 결코 여성에 대해서 부정적인 태도를 취하지 않았으며, 오히려 여성에게 중요한 역할을 부여함으로써 여성에 대한 긍정적인 태도를 수립하려고 했다. 이런 연구에 의하면 예수는 여성을 가르치고, 여성에게 기적을 베풀고, 여성의 질병을 고쳐주고, 여성을 하느님 나라 운동에 적극 동참시킴으로써 고대 세계에 만연하였던 성적 차별을 철폐하고자 했다.
이렇게 여성의 입장에서 예수와 초기 기독교를 바라보려는 새로운 시각이 대두되고 자리 잡아가고 있다. 이 논문은 예수의 인생에서 여성이 갖는 의미를, 예수가 여성에게 취했던 태도뿐만 아니라 여성이 예수에게 끼친 영향을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 즉 예수가 여성에게 일방적으로 영향을 끼친 것이 아니라 예수와 여성들이 서로 영향을 주고받았다는 관점을 수립하고자 시도하였다. 그 결과 네 명의 여성이 예수의 일생과 사역을 적극적으로 이끌었다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
예수의 어머니 마리아는 일반적으로 예수를 출산 한 후 아무런 역할을 하지 않는 침묵하는 존재로 간주되었다. 그러나 그녀는 예수의 활동을 적극적으로 이끌었다. 그녀는 예수가 세계에 자신을 내세우는 것을 주저할 때, 물을 포도주로 만들라고 권고하였다. 예수는 이 권고를 받고 비로소 세상에 자신의 권능을 알리기 시작하였다.
예수는 사마리아 우물가에서 한 여인을 만났다. 그녀는 예수가 그리스도라는 것을 깨달았고, 또한 하느님을 예배하는 데 있어서 장소가 중요하지 않다는 사실을 선포하게 하였다. 이는 예수의 사역이 유대의 울타리를 벗어나 보편적인 성격이 있음을 널리 알리는 일이었다. 따라서 사마리아의 여인은 예수로 하여금 그의 사역이 온 세계에 미친다는 것을 알리게 하는 역할을 수행하였다.
나자로의 누이인 마리아는 예수의 발에 비싼 향유를 붓고 그녀의 머리카락으로 예수의 발을 닦았다. 마리아의 이 행위는 예수를 유대의 왕으로 임명하는 대관식에 해당한다. 마태복음의 저자가 마리아가 예수의 머리에 향유를 부었다고 진술한 것이 이 행위의 성격을 명확히 규정한다.
막달라 마리아는 예수가 살아있었을 때 그의 동반자이었고, 예수가 부활했을 때 최초로 그를 만났다. 그녀는 예수의 남성 제자들보다 더 높은 권위를 가지고 있었을 것으로 추정된다. 결론적으로 여성들은 예수 생애의 결정적인 순간에 중요한 역할을 했다. 그녀들은 예수를 적극적으로 이끌고, 인정하고, 도왔다. 그녀들의 도움을 받으며 예수는 그의 사역을 성공적으로 수행할 수 있었다.
