HBsAg carrier has been known to be a major contributor to the transmission of viral B hepatitis. After exposure to the hepatitis B virus, many a outcomes and sequences of events are possible from completely clearing of virus out of the body without any symptoma and signs to acute and chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, and ultimately hepatoma. The occurrence rates of HBaAg in general population in Korea however are as high as 7-8%. And it is well known that the occurrence raters of HBsAg in hospital personnel are higher than those of general population.
The authors bested HBaAg by reversed-pasgive-hemagglutination-assay, and HBsAb by passive-hemagglutination-assay with the serum samples of 708 healthy hospital employees in the Seoul PaikHospital, Inje Medical College, on April '82.
The results obtained are as followings.
1.The overall occurrence rates of HBsAg was 7.77% (55 in 708), in which 8.16% (20 in 245), in men and 7.56%) (35 in 461), in women respectively. The occurrence rates of HBsAg in ages were 15.5% in the highteens, 8.84% in the twenties, 6.19% in the thirties, and 3.08% in the forties, and there was decreasing trend in the occurrence rates of HBsAg as the ages increase. There were no significant statistical differances among occupations buck as doctors, nurses, laboratory technitions, X-ray technitions, and other laborers.
2.The overall occurrence rates of HBsAb was 23.73%, (168 in 708) in which 28.98%, (71 in 245) in men, and 20.95% (97 in 463) in women. The raters in men is higher than that in women with statistical significance. (p<0.05)
The ocurrence rates of HBsAb in ages were 21.21% in the highteens, 24.14% in the twenties, 26.55% in the thirties, 20.00% in the forties, 11.11% in the fifties, and 50,00% in the sixties. There were no significant differences of the occurrence rates of HBsAb among occupations.
3.The overall occurrence rates of HBsAg or HBsAb was 31.50% (223 in 708), in which the occurrence rate is higher in men (37.14%) than in women (28.51%) wish statistical significance. (p<0.05) The occurrence raters of HBsAg or HBsAb in ages were 36.36% in the highteens, 32.97% in the twenties, 32.74% in the thirties, 23.08% in the forties, 11.l1% in the fifties, and 50.00% in the sixties with decreasing trend of occurrence raters as the ages increase except in the sixties, in which group the total number is too small (6)to be evaluated. There were no significant statistical differences of the occurrence rates of HBsAg or HBsAb among occupations.
4.There were no significant statistical differences among ABO type blood groups in the occurrence raters of both HBsAg and HBsAb.
