우리나라 대학의 사회적 연대 수준 탐색 - 고등교육 이해관계자들의 인식을 중심으로 = The Comparison of Stakeholders' Perceptions on Social Engagement of Korean Universities

This study, as regarding universities as public good, aimed at measuring social engagement of Korean universities. Accordingly, this study attempted to identify the dimensions that conceptually comprise social engagement by literature review and reflected the dimensions upon the development of the social engagement survey instrument. The main purpose was, suing the survey instrument developed, to examine the perceptions of stakeholders on social engagement of Korean universities. A total of 595 participants responded to the survey of this study. This study found that social engagement was highly valued in Korean universities. However their social engagement level were actually significantly low. Based on the finding, this study suggested how Korean universities become more actively engaged in communities. In addition, this study made a couple of suggestions for further studies.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 대학을 공공선으로 바라보는 사회적 연대의 관점에서 우리나라 대학의 사회적 연대 수준을 구체적으로 이해하고자 수행되었다. 이 연구의 목적은 대학의 사회적 연대를 구성하는 개념범주들을 식별하고, 이를 기초로 하여 우리나라 대학의 사회적 연대 수준을 분석하는 것이다. 이 연구의 방법론으로서, 연구자는 대학의 사회적 연대 수준을 구체적으로 이해하고자 하였던 선행연구들의 방법적 틀과 접근방식을 분석하여, 대학의 사회적 연대를 측정하는데 필요한 공통된 핵심 범주들을 추출하였고, 각 범주별 목적을 구현할 수 있는 하위측정문항들을 구성하였다. 이를 요약하면, 본 연구의 우리나라 대학의 사회적 연대 측정도구는 사회봉사와 사회연대에 대한 대학의 의식 및 문화, 제도적 지원체제, 리더십, 교육과정 및 프로그램, 구성원들의 의사결정 참여 등을 핵심 범주로 규정하였다. 방법론으로서, 이 연구는 고등교육 이해관계자들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문조사에는 서울에 소재한 대규모 종합사립대학의 주요 구성원인 교수, 학생(대학원생 포함), 행정직원이 참여하였고, 해당 대학의 병설 고등학교 두 곳에 재직 중인 고등학교 3학년생 담당 및 대학입시 관련 교사들이 학외 구성원으로 참여하였다. 연구결과, 우리나라 대학의 사회적 연대 의식은 사회연대의 중요성과 가치 면에서 매우 긍정적인 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 대학의 사회적 연대 의식과는 달리, 대학의 사회적 연대 수준은 이 연구의 측정도구를 구성하는 범주들 모두에서 매우 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 우리나라 대학은 조직문화적으로는 사회연대의 가치를 적극적으로 인정하고 있으나, 실제로 이를 구현하기 위한 대학의 정책적 기반 및 체제의 확립 수준은 여전히 미흡함을 시사한다. 이에, 이 연구는 우리나라 대학의 사회적 연대 의식을 강화하고 실제 수준을 향상시키기 위한 방안을 제안하였고, 후속연구를 위해서도 몇 가지 제언하였다.
