신안군 도서지역의 소 사육문화에 관한 연구 = A Study on the Structure of Vernacular Houses and Cattle Breeding Culture in the Islands of Sinangun

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to analyze the structure of vernacular houses and cattle breeding of the Shinan island region, and examine the correlation between housing types. In order to achieve this objective, the study first analyzed the position of cowsheds. It then focused on explaining the marine climate, cattle breeding and its ecological environment. Since the house acts as the main living space, its structure is closely related to the local lifestyle. The hosts living in the vernacular house are the same people that live in the area. The structural characteristics of the vernacular house in Sinan-gun differ upon where it is situated. There are largely three types of vernacular house structure. First is one with a cowshed placed in the main house structure. Second is one where the cowshed is placed in the outbuilding, and lastly one without any cowshed. The warm current of the Yellow Sea is responsible for the temperate maritime climate. The oceanic climate depends on the region``s ecology and the type of trees that the island area holds. Evergreen grows wild in the Heuksan area, and since cows feed upon grass and trees are plentiful in the winter fields and mountains of the region, cattle breeding is possible. Thus, in Heuksan area, the vernacular houses are built without any cowsheds.
