The scope of this study is to utilize marketing strategies and implementations practically as well as academically by researching structural relationship in organizational market orientation, service value, job satisfaction and performance depended on hotel firms organizational characteristics. To fulfill the objectives, a survey was conducted to employees who have been working at least at up-scale hotels in Seoul more than a year. The survey was to examine following specific research questions; 1) the effects of three sets of factors such as top management, organization structures, inter-department connectedness on a market orientation, 2) the effect of a market orientation on business performance, 3) the effect of a service value on marketing performance, 4) the mediating role of employees satisfaction and differentiation strategy in the relationship between a market orientation and business performance, 5) the best model that explains market orientation, service value, job satisfaction, and marketing performance all together.
To analyze the data collected from respondents, the several statistical methods were used including descriptive analysis, reliability test, covariance analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, covariance structural analysis with SPSS/ WIN 10.0 and LISREL S statistical packages.
The empirical results and implications are that formalization, decentralization, reward system, inter-departmental relationship, marketing performance, job satisfaction, and service value are positively related to market orientation. Only the characteristics of top management are not related to the market orientation. Furthermore, service value is positively related to marketing performance as well. Therefore, service value intermediates between market orientation and marketing performance.
Several suggestions and implications can be made from the result of the study. First, hotel firms ought to have market oriented and decentralized organizational structure to accomplish better business performance. Second, synchronized communication skill between departments is a need to make the business missions possible. Third, top management should have and maintain the ability of accurate prediction for market trend, and deliver it to each department as fast as possible. Fourth, different systems related to employees such as wage, reward, incentive program should be practice adequately. Finally, this study was expected to make positive impact on hotel management, and to lead further studies continuously related to this subject.
