(Abstract)
The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of adult-child characteristics, perceived social support as well as ego-resiliency on college students' adjustment.
Subjects were 475 college students of 4 universities in the Daegu area and measured adult-child characteristics, social support, ego resiliency and adaptation in university life.
The research question presented on this study and the result are as follows.
First, there are significant correlation between social support, ego-resiliency, university life adaptation and adult-child characteristics. However the adjustment between individual-emotional adult-child university life shows a meaningful relationship. In addition, the groups with high adult-child characteristics and the groups with low characteristics have a meaningful difference between them in terms of adjustment to university life and adjustment to society. A meaningful difference can be shown with individual-emotional adjustments and adjustment to university environments. Secondly, the relationship between measures of social support, ego-resiliency, measures of university life adaptation and measure of adult-child characteristics each have -ⅳ-
subordinate factors which create affects and in order to find this out each were looked at as independent variables. This was done and the results from the stages of recurring analysis, adjustment to education surrounding evaluating support were meaningful. Surrounding evaluating support was found to be the most meaningful to adjustment to society and the information support with regard to society adjustment and for individual-emotional adjustment ego-resiliency was found to be the most important. For university environment adjustment adult-child characteristics were found to be the largest meaningful variable.
When combined and looked at, the above research results show that adult-child characteristics are high and social support is highly received. It was found that the higher the ego-resiliency the easier it is adjust to university life. However in the case of adult-child characteristics the perceived social support and the ego-resiliency show a relationship. For individual-emotional adjustment to university life the relationship is also evident. The higher the degree of adult-child characteristics the more unstable the emotions become. As a result students with high levels of adult-child characteristics are able to adjust in society with stable emotions and therefore are in need of therapeutic counseling.
