First, the effectiveness of zeolite as replacement for Phosphates and STPP as co-builder in zeolite-contained detergent was studied.
The results indicated that generally, the detergency of STTP was better than that of zeolite, regardless of washing conditions, but the difference of detergency between STPP and zeolite was not significant.
Therefore, zeolite was estimated as a good replacement for STPP in laundry detergents.
The detergency of the mixture of zeolite and STPP was higher than that of individual zeolite and STPP.
This meant that zeolite and STPP ideally complement each other in laundry detergents.
Then, the detergency characteristics of zeolite-contained detergent was investigated under such washing conditions as surfactant concentration, water hardness, mechanical force and washing temperature.
It was observed that the detergency increased with increasing surfactant concentration, mechanical force and washing temperature, but the detergency decreased with increasing water hardness.
The suspending power of zeolite-contained detergent increased with increasing zeolite concentration added to detergent.
