      Legends which are regionally handed down depend largely upon the beliefs of a group, natural surroundings, or social life.
      Danyang gun is located in the northern extremity of Chungbuk, and is know as a
      region of great natural beauty with a lot of mountains. There are many places where they still cross streams in ferryboats with its being backward in civilization and the poor means of transportation. Even a few years ago, there were prevailing a religious service for the god of a mountain and a service for a tutelary deity throughout the region.
      The purpose of this paper, as a part of legendary literature, is to examine the
      characteristics of the legends collected from Danyang, for which we classified them in characters and distributional state at each Myon.
      This paper includes such as an introduction, classification of legends in character and district(each Myon), and 7 items of conclusion.
