The purpose of this study is to investigate retirement and related working life of Korean older workers. Average retirement age in Korea is much lower than other developed countries. Even worse, because of recent economic recession, early or forced retirement has been induced throughout almost all industries. While Korean population is aging, number of older workers has been declined. They are well trained and have a lot of work-related knowledge. But they are alienated and feel forced to retire only because they are older than others. This situation creates a lot of negative effects among older workers. This study has been done using qualitative method in order to find out deep-seated response of older workers on retirement, especially early or forced retirement. Personal in-depth study has been done on 20 workers and retirees. Results show that older workers perceive the pressure of retirement from a company and colleagues and they feel to be alienated from the work place only because they are older than others. They have a negative feeling toward retirement basically because they retire too early and have to make a living at least for the time being after retirement. They want new full-time or part-time job after retirement. In order to reduce their negative feeling toward retirement, career management and training programs for retirees are necessary. Future research in this area has been suggested.
