This article aims to examine the meaning of the local consciousness of the country and the reproduction of the people revealed in Park Tae-Sun’s travel essays submitted from the 1960s to the early 1980s to the 2000s.
In these travel essays, it is confirmed that Park Tae-Sun is deepening the problem of local people’s consciousness and literature practice revealed through his major work, “Oe-chon-dong Series.” Park Tae-Sun historically calls the name “people” of the time in his travel statement, distancing himself from movements to objectify their existence, while faithfully archiving aspects of the lives of the so-called “Subaltern.” In this process, our land is also metaphorically linked to another Subaltern. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that it resonates with the “rural” discourse of the time, and presents new points of local literature and locality discourse while conscious of and criticizing the limitations of the discourse.
In Park Tae-Sun’s travel essay, it will be re-examined that the “people” are not a group that has a smooth homogeneous meaning, but have various characteristics like the aspects of our country, which are within one country but have various characteristics.
