창의적 사고과정 기반의 음악창작 수업 모형 제안 = A Proposal for Music Creation Classes Based on the Creative Thinking Process

Music creation plays an important role in students’ understanding of music because it requires
their own personal expression which is a key element in enhancing creativity. Therefore, it is necessary to
study the learning characteristics and conditions for music creation classes in order for creative activities to
have meaningful educational effects. This study approached creativity as a thinking process that connects or
combines existing information according to specific circumstances and incorporated the creative thinking process
as a proposed model for music creation classes. The music creation model was designed with a procedural
process consisting of three steps: sensing, familiarizing, and composing. The process stimulates the learner’s
imagination and expands musical thinking through musical and cultural contexts. The first step, sensing,
develops the students’ ability to notice musical concepts or materials perceptually by providing musical and
cultural contexts. The familiarizing stage involves students to practice and learn the sensed musical concepts and
materials with greater confidence. This is related to various musical activities such as listening, singing, and
playing instruments. The last step, composing, teaches students to apply or to recompose the familiarized or
understood concepts, thereby making personal and creative products. In addition, it is important for students to
learn to utilize cognitive elements, such as retrieval of memory, visualization, various representation patterns,
inference, abstraction, combination, and re-combination. The creative thinking process as the basis for music
creation classes can be developed or facilitated via systematic planning. This study will make possible the
development of this model which can be utilized in music classes universally to promote the effectiveness of
music creation classes.
