    In this article, the preparedness of life-long learning and work, the development of expertise in domains and the continuous transformational learning are suggested as three directions of the reading and writing instruction for career education. Reading and writing activities are essential to foster the basic academic skills and the workplace literacy. And the abilities of reading and writing contribute to develop expertise through expanding the rhetorical problem spaces and combining them with the knowledge of domain spaces. The instructional framework for professional communication skills should involve several layered literacies. The objectives of transformational learning are to reflect one-selves, to emancipate the inner conflicts, to criticize and to participate in the world, and to co-emerge with the environment. So the instructional objectives of reading and writing programs for career can be to know, to control, to consider and to recreate selves. Therefore, the literacy program for career should have integrated the creative, the expressive, and the reflective reading and writing activities. The current characteristics of career education highlights the reading and writing education as a more important enterprise than ever.
