통계적 접근에 기반한 지역행사 연계 관광전략 제안: 강원특별자치도 MICE 행사 유치 가능성 분석

국문 초록 (Abstract)

지역행사와 관광객 수요 간의 상관관계를 정량적으로 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 효과적인 관광정책을 수립하는 데 있어 통계적 접근은 중요한 역할을 한다. 최근에는 MICE 행사 유치가 지역관광 활성화를 위한 전략으로 주목받고 있다.
따라서 본 논문은 최근 3년간 관광 인프라, 기상 조건, 숙박 방문자 수 등 지역 특성 데이터를 활용하여 강원특별자치도 및 서울·경기 주요 지역을 대상으로 군집분석을 실시하였다. 이를 통해 도출된 군집에 대해 다중 회귀모형과 평활역적합법에 기반한 비모수적 가법모형을 이용한 다중 회귀분석을 수행하여 다양한 요인이 관광 수요에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 또한, 대한민국 전역에서 개최된 MICE 행사의 개최 시기, 장소, 주최 기관 등의 데이터를 수집하고, 강원특별자치도의 MICE 행사 유치 가능성에 대해 통계적으로 검토하기 위해 서울·경기 지역의 사례를 벤치마킹하였다. 이 과정에서 빈도분석을 통해 행사 유형별 분포와 개최 특성을 분석하였다. 지역 특성 데이터와 관광 수요 간의 관계를 정량적으로 분석하고, MICE 행사 특성을 파악한 뒤, 두 분석 결과를 통합적으로 해석함으로써, 강원특별자치도에 최적화된 MICE 행사 기반 관광 전략을 제안하였다.

Statistical approaches play a critical role in quantitatively analyzing the correlation between local events and tourist demand, and in establishing effective tourism policies based on such insights. In recent years, attracting MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events has gained attention as a strategy to revitalize regional tourism.
Accordingly, this study conducted cluster analysis on Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and major areas in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province using regional characteristic data over the past three years, including tourism infrastructure, weather conditions, and accommodation visitor numbers. Based on the identified clusters, multiple regression analysis was conducted using both linear multiple regression models and non-parametric additive models with smooth backfitting to examine the influence of various factors on tourism demand.
Furthermore, data on the timing, location, and hosting organizations of MICE events held across South Korea were collected, and a statistical review was performed on the potential for Gangwon Province to attract MICE events, benchmarking cases from Seoul and Gyeonggi regions. Event-type distribution and hosting characteristics were analyzed through frequency analysis.
By quantitatively analyzing the relationship between regional characteristics and tourism demand, identifying the traits of MICE events, and integrating the results of these analyses, this study proposes a MICE event-based tourism strategy optimized for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.
