This study has been investigated on the effects of weight loss, breaking strength, Hunter whiteness, handle, dry soiling and static charge when polyester fabric was treated with sodium hydroxide solution by conjunct treatment with cationic surfactant such as quaternary ammonium salt.
The effect of alkali treatment was increased to more than ten times by conjunct treatment with cationic surfactant.
The effective cationic surfactant concentration was between 5g/ℓ and 10g/ℓ in dilute sodium hydroxide solution. According to the increases of concentration of sodium hydroxide and surfactant, breaking strength was decreased and handle was improved.
The whiteness of polyester fabric was decreased by conjunct treatment with cationic surfactant.
Hydrophilic property of polyester fabric was not increased by alkali treatment. It was found that anti-static finish must be carry out on alkali treatment.
