This paper is about examining dignified society in the philosophical perspective of eastern and western .To be specific, we will analyze dignified society through dignity of Mill utilitarianist humanity and righteousness of Confucian philosophy. Dignity is from dignitas in Latin .J.S. Mill mentioned dignity among western philosophers. According to Mill, we are not ruled by only the amount of pleasure because human has a sense of dignity. Mill accepts the principle of the fusion of interest, which is developed by two value,self-development and consideration for others. If humans just pursue only their own pleasure, it would be like animals. But with dignity people think about others and care them. Mill calls it “dignity.” Psychiatrist doctor si-hyung, lee suggests “dignity” as specific virtue. First virtue is self-control, holding back emotion and be having with rationality. Second one is magnanimity, taking the difference, The third is regard, which can be enjoyed with little careful concern. The reason why emphasizing faithfulness is because the love without trust is empty, the justice without faith can be hypocrisy. To the disciples who ask the essentials of politics, Confucius said, “If the subjects don`t believe, The country can`t exist.” The dignified society is blooming with love and justice based on the moral principle, trust.
