The study develops the spacial constituent principle and its changing aspects for Louis I. Kahn's residential architecture. His principle of the spacial constitution was mostly affected by two major factors : One is from classical motive and the other is from Ecole des Beaux-Arts. It is classified into three factors : The first one can be stated as spacial constitution with a planar constitution, such as a strong axial line and a system with spacial geometry. The second one is the spacial constitution with functions, such as the relationship between served space and servant space and the relationship among a living room, a sleeping room, and a parking area. The last one is summarized as the treatment of light and the relationship of the spacial constitution.
The spacial constituent principle above mentioned is shown in both residential architecture and public architecture in common. It can be also inferred that his principle had been transferred from residential architecture to public architecture.
