This study assumed production time and monk sculptor of enshrined image of Buddha in Heungkuk Temple statue in its main building, Namyangjusi, Gyeonggi-do. Among numerous image of Buddha made latter part of Joseon dynasty, this image of Buddha is superior, however its concrete research didn't progressed. So in the history of Buddhist statues it couldn't get the right valuation.
Hungkuk Temple statue in its main building, Namyangju, three wooden Buddhist statues is a medium size, heightis 79㎝ and the width of knee is 53㎝, the ratio of height and the width of knee is 1:0.67. At the outer clothe on Buddha' s right shoulder is hang straight and round at the edge like a knife, these shape of the outer clothe was found in different Buddhist statures, but none of these relic has known production time. The inner part of clothe covering the lower half of the statue speared forming the letter S the other 3-4 crease on the image of Buddha is made simply. These shapes started in early 18 century and became popular in mid and end of the 18 century. On the side of Buddhist statue the outer clotheis hang down similar to A shape. These kind of clothe creases similar on seated wooden Bodhisattva statue on Seosan Temple, Gokseong (1706 by Jinyeol), a seated wooden image of Buddha in Hoeamsa Temple in Yangjoo (1755 by Sangjeong), and seated wooden Bodhisattva statue in Sukwang temple in Bucheon. Heungguk Temple statue in its main building, Namyangju, statue of Buddha' s ratio, physiognomy and ashape of clothe is most similar to Sangjeong. Sangjeong's work was only found in 3 different place and 5 Buddha's statues, the inference of production time is around 1770 the body ratio and shape of clothe is simpler then seated wooden Bodhisattva in Oheo Temple, Pohang, which is made in 1765.
Monk sculptor Sangjeong regild Bulkap Temple, Youngkwang, a seated wooden triad Buddhist statue(1747) and a newly built Buddha Statue in Borim Temple, Jangheung (1748), on 1755 he made a seated wooden Buddhist statue in Hoeam Temple in Yangjoo and a seated wooden Bodhisattva in Sukwang Temple, Bucheon. After he regild triad Buddhist statue, Hwaeom Temple, Kurye, in its main building, on 1765 he produce, a seated wooden triad Buddhist statuein Pohang Oheo Temple. Also he regild Amitabha Buddhist statue of Buseok Temple Muryangsujeon in Gyungbuk Yeongjoo(1767) and the Jikjisa Buddhist statue in Kimchon of Gyungbuk, The dedicative inscription indicates that Sangjung's secular name was Jang 張.In gilding Buddhist statues of Bulguksa, the temple history record reads 'Honam Sangjung, a gilding craftsman', which indicates that Sangjung is a monk residing in Jeolla-do province. His lineage is succeeded to Jinyeol (~1695~1772~), Taewon (~1698~1748~), Sangjeong (~1747~1771~), Gyecho (~1754~1790~), Bonghyun (~1780~1790~), Chingsook (~1754~1780~), to Gyeshim (~1771~1787~)
Since 18 century Jeolla-domonk sculptors came to Gyeonggi-do and started to make Buddhist statue. It was motivated by 1711 Gyepa Sungneoung, who leaded construction of castle on Bykhan mountain. These factscame out from dedicative inscription that was found in Sangun Temple statue, Goyangsi (Jinyeol's work on 1713).
