인도 아잔타 후기 불교석굴의 천불에 대한 고찰 = Studies on Thousand Buddhas in the later half of Ajanta Buddhist caves

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Thousand Buddhas in Buddhist arts are described as small-size buddhas in a number of lines and rows as the forms of painting or relievo. There are the painting of and the relievo of Thousand Buddhas in the front hall of the second cave and the seventh cave of Ajanta Buddhist caves for the first time, supposed to be built in the latter half of five century.
The paper researches the background to the works of Thousand Buddhas from the viewpoint of Thousand Buddhas of the Bhadra Kalpa (賢劫千佛) thought. The works of Thousand of Buddhas in the second and seventh caves are built by a donation from Buddhist monks etc., since the beginning period of the cave development for religious practices, namely contemplation with Buddha images. The purpose of Thousand Buddhas in India is different from that of the other areas, for example, in Central Asia, China, and Korea of which Thousand Buddhas are built with The Future Buddha (Maitri Buddha) or Amitābha Buddha on the upper wall or ceiling. The purpose to build the Buddhas is to help dead people to reincarnate in the next world.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

불교미술에서 천불 도상이란 그림과 부조로 같은 형태, 같은 크기의 작은부처가 여러 행과 열을 맞추어서 반복적으로 표현되는 일군의 부처를 말한다. 인도의 천불 도상은 5세기 후반 아잔타 후기 불교석굴 제2굴과 제7굴의불당전실에 벽화와 부조로 처음 나타난다.
본고에서는 인도에서 현겁천불 사상과 천불 도상이 성립된 배경을 우선고찰한다. 아잔타 후기석굴 제2굴과 제7굴의 천불 도상은 석굴 개착 이후에비구 등 개인의 시주에 의해 그 목적은 종교수행, 즉 觀想을 위해 조성되었음을 밝혔다. 이와 같이 인도에서 조성된 천불은 중앙아시아, 중국 그리고 한국 등 대승불교 지역에서 주로 벽면 위쪽이나 천정에서 미륵불 또는 아미타불과 함께 나타나 죽은 사람의 上生을 돕는 목적으로 조성된 것과는 다른 조성 배경과 목적이 있었다.
