기호유학의 현대적 조망 : 한말 화서학파의 의리사상에 관한 일고 - 화서 및 그 문하의 척사의리를 중심으로 - = A Study on the Justice Thoughts of the School of Hwa-seo in the Last Period of the Yi - Dynasty

Yi-Dynasty in the 19th century which was being changed violently was the arena of competition of the western Powers of imperialism. The situation of the influence on the east-asia by the western Powers was recognized as a crisis of threating survival of the nations. Accordingly it can be told that the main cause of the situation of a crisis is the invasion of the western Powers. So Hwa-seo and his followers insisted that they kept off the crooked(邪) and practiced the justice(義理), and raised a righteous army(義兵), which show the consciousness of orthodoxy and practical spirit of a Study of Dao. The justice thoughts of hwa-seo and his followers have the consciousness of dao, namely the faith of truth. Their firm belief was represented the consciousness of hwa(華) which contained dao(道), and went on with compilation of the song-won-hwa-dong-sa-hap-pyun-kang-mok(宋元華史合編綱目). This discrimination of hwa(華) and yi(夷) was caused by that it was criticized that unchangeable ri(理) was misunderstood for changeable ki(氣), this is in-ki-yu-ri (認氣爲理 ). Hwa-seo thought that the west religion had a characteristic of in-ki-yu-ri(認氣爲理) and real relision needed a morality of in-ui-ye-gi(仁義禮智). Myun-am(勉菴) thought that the west and the japan were one-ness and being civilized was unfair. Ui-am(毅菴) thought that being civilized without subjectivity resulted is national ruin. Hwa-seo and his followers rejected the crooked(邪), criticized a policy of being civilized without subjectivity, and made efforts to keep independency of Yi-Dynasty.
