백석 소설이 지닌 서사 구조의 특성에 대한 연구 -「마을의 유화」와 「닭을 채인 이야기」를 중심으로 = Characteristics of the Narrative Structure in the novel of Baek Seok

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Baek Seok is an outstanding poet of the 1930's in our history of contemporary literature. However, novel was the first piece of work he published and later he published three more. Among them, < Thee Story of the Village > and < The Story of a Stolen Chicken > have different narrative form distinguished from other existing Novel Grammer.
< The Story of the Village > is a literary work that deals the condition of a an old couple stranded in a freezing room in a cold winter. Baek Seok portrays the condition and movements of the old couple in phased scenes in which he composes a confrontation between the characters and thus creates a plot by connecting those scenes. Baek Seok composes the confrontation through the technique of description in every scene. Backgrounds, objects and abstract beings, such as winter, age, death, flat stone, wall, door, which are associated with the condition and movements of the old couple are all personified into images that confront with the old couple. Through portrayal of the condition and movements of the old couple he forms narrative in which the old couple struggles with every existence in the world. This movingly showed how tough and difficult a life of the old couple is.
< The Story of the Stolen Chicken > is a story that deals with the revenge play between a chicken owned by Sisang Old Man and a chicken owned by Dipyong Old man who both live in a country village. Though it is the revenge of the Sisang Old Man against the Dipyong Old Man that forms the basis of the whole conflict in this story, in the development process it is portrayed as a long and tedious confrontation between the two chickens, windfall between a preposterous animal and humans and conflicts between unexpected figures. Instead of focusing on the causal relations between the conflict among the two characters, this literary work independently connects the conflicts of another character which are derived from the original conflict and embodies the broad meaning of life within a narrow structure of a short story by focusing on the portrayal of the figures and scenes in individual narration. The theme of this work is respond of the weak toward the strong, opportunity of a windfall, false of physiognomy, inevitability of a coincidence and an unexpected outcome of an intended purpose. Baek Seok expanded the scope of a short story through the creation of a unique narrative structure.
