Children's severe inferiority can be referred to as a mental handicap, which can act as a great obstacle to social life, individual life and self-realization when they are adults. And the sense exerts unfavorable influences on subjective learning activities, all-round personality development and human relationship. Therefore, one of the most important educational tasks is to reduce this kind of severe inferiority causing a lot of obstacles to the formation of perfect personality.
In this context, this study is designed to work out inferiority-relieving group counseling programs on the basis of such necessity, to apply them to subjects and corroboratively confirm the influences of the group counseling programs on reduction in elementary school students' inferiority on the basis of such necessity.
The researcher tried to establish a theory on inferiority, developing and applying REBT counseling programs designed for a reduction in inferiority on the basis of the theory and confirming the effects.
The research came up with a problem: 'Are the REBT programs effective in reducing children's inferiority?' And the researcher developed a total of 10-session inferiority-reducing programs on the basis of rational, emotive and behavior counseling programs.
The subjects consisted of a total of 146 sixth graders going to K elementary school(where I am working) in Suncheon, South Province. I conducted a pretest related to inferiority, and random sampling with 40 top scorers as the subjects. And the researcher made a selection of 20 students who want to take part in group counseling through inferiority-reducing programs, having 10 students belong to the experiment group and the rest of them belong to the control group. The former was exposed to 6-week inferiority-decreasing programs (60 minutes per session), which turned out to be effective.
The findings are as follows ;
First, the REBT group counseling programs for the subjects proved to be effective in lowering the scores of the experiment group's inferiority to a significant level.
Second, the REBT group counseling programs for the subjects turned out to be effective in reducing the physical, social and intellectual inferiority scores of the experiment group to a lower level than those of the control group.
