This study conducted a literature review on vacant houses and performed issue analysis using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modeling by utilizing the BigKinds database to collect 19,624 news articles from 2017 to August 2024. It was discovered that the issue of vacant houses is closely linked to various societal problems, such as regional decline, population decrease, crime escalation, and stagnation in the housing market. Notably, the persistent increase in vacant houses exacerbates social costs within communities and contributes to negative effects, such as the breakdown of local communities. This study emphasizes the necessity of creative and sustainable approaches focusing on resident participation and community restoration to address the issue of vacant houses. It could also provide a foundational resource for exploring policy and social solutions.
