The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship among socioeconomic status, health, and family relationships using the data set from a representative national scale, particularly the data from old age population.
Health (physical and mental) is greatly influenced by social factors and the root cause of the disease is closely related to socio-economic status. The World Health Organization (WHO) explained that health should be defined in terms of a status of physical status, mental state, and personal well-being. Thus, based on the WHO definition of health, this study includes physical and mental health variables as health status.
Recent studies have documented that the relationship between socioeconomic status and health variables have mediated or moderated by the quality of family relationship. However, the studies regarding the relationship among health, socioeconomic status, and family is limited in Korea.
