『에밀』에 나타난 목적론적 자연개념의 교육학적 시사 = Teleological concept of nature in Emile and its educational implication

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to exhibit the teleological concept of nature in Profession of Faith of the Savoyard Vicar of Emile and explore how it can be interpreted as an educational theory. In this viewpoint Profession of Faith is not merely a religious subject nor Rousseau`s religious faith but his new philosophical approach to nature. In his earlier writings, ``natural state`` is an antithesis to criticize human absurdity but is a negative state without human unique characters like morality and education. On the other hand, in Profession of Faith of Emile, he represented the teleological concept of nature. It is the divine order that is intimated in the natural world and the moral society, or rather the internal order of mind that we acquire while learning natural laws and engaging in moral activity(i.e. in theory and practice). Therefore, Rousseau`s ideal state is a not primitive state without civilization or education, nor a totalitarian society without individual freedom. It is well-ordered mind of well-educated person.
