In this study, the effect of oil supply conditions on the static performance of a hydrodynamic journal bearing is analyzed numerically. Axial length, circumferential length and location of oil groove are considered as oil supply conditions. Cavitation occurs within the diverging region of a hydrodynamic journal bearing. The distribution of cavitation region where cavitation occurs is changed according to oil supply conditions and affects the performance of a hydrodynamic journal bearing. Elrod's cavitation algorithm which implements JFO oil rupture / reformation boundary condition is adopted in order to consider the effect of cavitation region. The result shows that oil supply conditions, especially location of oil groove have a great effect on the static performance of a hydrodynamic journal bearing.
