This Paper aims to compare the lower marine terraces distributed around Pohang area in the Southeastern coast of Korean peninsula by the geomorphic method of using characteristics of terrace features and terrace deposits, paleosol, and fossil cryogenic structures, and to determine the age of the lower terraces on the basis of amino acid and (14)^C dating methods. The lower marine terraces in this area can be classified into two surfaces, i. e., lower marine terrace I and B surfaces, in desending order, according to the difference of former shoreline altitude. The former shoreline heights of the lower marine terrace I and B surfaces are 18m and 10m, respectively. The lower marine terrace I surface(Jugcheon I surface, Kangsa I surface, and Dogu I surtace) had been formed in the Last Interglacial culimination stage(oxygen isotope stage 5e) was revealed. And the lower marine terrace lI surface(Jugcheon lI surface, Kangsa II surface, and Dogu B surface) had been formed in the last warmer substage of the Last Interglacial(5a) was revealed. Because the lower marine terrace I surface is broadly distributed around the Pohang area, the surface could be used to be a key surface in studying Quaternary marine terraces.
