성인기 발달장애인을 위한 보완대체의사소통 체계에서 필요한 팬데믹 상황 어휘와 그림상징 개발 = Development of Pandemic Vocabulary and Graphic Symbols in AAC Systems for Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Background and Objectives: The purpose of this study was to develop the pandemic situational vocabulary and graphic symbols needed in AAC(Augmentative and Alternative Communication) systems for people with developmental disabilities and validate them. Methods: FGI(Focus Group Interview) was conducted with families of people with developmental disabilities, professionals working with people with developmental disabilities, speech-language pathologists, and special education teachers to explore the need for developing AAC vocabulary and graphic symbols. A vocabulary list was developed through content analysis, and graphic symbols were developed. The vocabulary and graphic symbols were evaluated for validity by 20 family members, speech-language pathologists, special educators of people with developmental disabilities, and 10 people with developmental disabilities. Results: The FGI results indicated a need to develop vocabulary and graphic symbols for infectious disease prevention, participation in telepractice activities and self-care, as well as home, time, date, weather, work life, and emotional expression. Design guidelines for graphic symbols were developed, graphic symbols were developed through a council of illustrators, and some vocabulary for movement and motion was developed as graphics interchange format (GIF) symbols. The suitability of the developed graphic symbols was validated.
Conclusion: The development of AAC graphic symbols representing infection-specific prevention, telepractice activities, and social networking is expected to be very useful in the pandemic era.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

배경 및 목적: 본 연구 목적은 성인기 발달장애인의 보완대체의사소통 체계에서 필요한팬데믹 상황어휘와 그림상징을 개발하고 그 타당도를 검증하는 데 있다. 방법: 발달장애인 가족, 발달장애 관련 종사자, 언어재활사 및 특수교사 집단을 대상으로 FGI 실시하여 AAC 어휘와 그림상징 개발에 대한 요구를 살펴보았고, 내용분석 통해 어휘목록 도출 후 그림상징을 개발하였다. 이후 발달장애인 가족, 언어재활사, 및 특수교사 20 명, 발달장애인 당사자 10 명을 대상으로 어휘타당도와 그림상징 타당도 평가를 실시하였다. 결과: FGI 결과 감염병 예방, 비대면 활동 참여, 자기관리와 주거환경, 시간, 날짜와날씨, 직장생활과 감정표현의 어휘와 그림상징 개발의 요구가 나타났다. 그림상징의 디자인 가이드라인을 개발하고 일러스트 디자이너 협의회를 통해 그림상징을 개발하였으며, 동작 표현, 움직임을 나타내는 일부 어휘는 GIF(Graphics Interchange Format) 형식의 그림상징으로 개발하였다. 개발한 그림상징은 타당도 검증을 통해 적합성을 평가받았다. 논의 및 결론: 전 세계적인 팬데믹 시대에 감염병 예방, 비대면 활동, SNS 등을표상하는 AAC 그림상징 개발은 활용의 기대가 클 것으로 기대된다.
