The plans of Technopolis development started in the early of 1980's in Japan have called other countries' attentions because it could promote high-technology industries and regional developments. While the results had not been evaluated yet, the way of Technopolis developments of Japan were already applied to other countries In Korea, similar Technopolis developments have been planned in the late of 1980's, of which the goals were not achieved.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the results of Japanese Technopolis developments and to identify significant factors in selecting locations of high-technology industries in local areas. The results showed that the regions minimizing costs in location process were preferred to having the essential location factors for high-technology industries in general such as highway, airport, university and research center.
