다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract) kakao i 다국어 번역

In Late Middle Korean (LMK) there existed a set of nouns that exhibited irregular alternations. These “irregular nouns,” such as namwo~namk ‘tree’, appeared as disyllabic forms when used alone or before a consonant particle, but showed a monosyllabic allomorph before a vowel particle. This study aims to describe their historical developments as attested in Hangul sources and their diversification in modern dialects, to clarify the mechanisms that conditioned their morphological change, and to examine their pre-LMK stages by means of internal reconstruction.
Chapter 2 presents the historical development of irregular nouns as attested in Hangul materials dating from the fifteenth through the early twentieth century. The analysis focuses on paradigm leveling and word-final vowel /o/. Irregular nouns attested as such in LMK underwent paradigm leveling toward the isolation form, a change that took place largely in the nineteenth century. However, the timing of leveling varied across lexical items; for example, namk ‘tree’ and kwumk ‘hole’ continued to be attested into the early twentieth century. This study proposes that the timing of paradigm leveling correlates with token frequency, with higher-frequency items tending to undergo leveling later.
As for the irregular nouns with word-final /o/ in LMK, they generally appear with final /wo/ in the late eighteenth century and with final /wu/ in the nineteenth century onward. Forms with word-final /u/ occur only sporadically in the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries. These facts indicate that the word-final /o/ of irregular nouns developed through /o/>/wo/>/wu/, an exceptional development given the usual change of medial /o/>/u/.
Chapter 3 describes the diversification of irregular nouns in modern dialects, and discusses the mechanisms underlying their formation. Although many dialects, including the central dialect, have undergone leveling toward the isolation form, not all dialectal forms can be explained solely by this development. Accordingly, this study accounts for the formation of modern dialectal forms in terms of several mechanisms, including the reanalysis of case-marked forms, analogical contamination among allomorphs, suffixal derivation, and blending among dialectal variants. Specifically, the study hypothesizes that dialectal forms with a medial consonant cluster followed by word-final /wu/, such as nangkwu ‘tree’, kallwu ‘powder’ and calkwu ‘sack’, were formed through the reanalysis of forms combined with the particles -un, -ul, and -ulwo. In addition, the study also accounts for the formation of other atypical dialectal forms, such as yéswu ‘fox’, yeng ‘fox’, nang ‘tree’, and mwuywu ‘radish’.
Chapter 4 aims to reconstruct the pre-LMK forms of the irregular nouns and their historical development. Since Lee(이기문; 1962), the prevailing view has been to reconstruct their earliest forms with a final syllable of the shape C₁VC₂ (V = o, u), as in *namok (>namwo~namk) ‘tree’ and *holol (>holo~holl) ‘one day’. However, subsequent studies have proposed alternative reconstructions: some reconstruct the final syllable as C₁kV (V = o, u), while another study argues that, in certain cases, the word-final vowel should be reconstructed as /wo/ or /wu/. This chapter reviews these proposals and concludes that Lee’s (1962) reconstruction remains the most logically robust.
It further defends Lee’s reconstruction against criticisms and logical problems associated with this reconstruction, adducing additional evidence. In the course of this analysis, the study proposes that LMK kolo~kolG ‘powder’ and dialectal malu~malk ‘ridge’ may reflect analogical remodelling from ll-type irregular nouns (i.e., nouns showing lo/lu in isolation or before consonants, but ll before vowels) to lG-type irregular nouns, a development likely motivated by the high type frequency of the lG-type pattern. Also, the study suggests that the earlier form of kozGay ‘scissors’ may have been *kozokay, and adduces this as evidence for medial weak vowel loss (ò > ∅ / z_γ). In addition, the study compares the strengths and weaknesses of the proposed candidates for C₂, a point that has been the subject of considerable debate.
The chapter also examines the hypothesis that irregular nouns derive from a suffix *-Vk and concludes that the evidence for this hypothesis remains insufficient. Finally, with reference to Lee (1962), the study clarifies the sequence of morphological changes that irregular nouns underwent from the reconstructed stage to the fifteenth century, and seeks to establish the absolute and relative chronology of each change. As part of this analysis, it proposes that some lG-type irregular nouns may have acquired their irregular paradigms after a t>l shift around the thirteenth century.
