The purpose of this study was to analyze the awareness of Taekwondo major students in the areas of educational object, the contents of curriculum, and its management. The conclusion was obtained by analyzing the survey list that was asked to 360 students in the sophomore, junior and senior of major in Taekwondo in 5 different universities in Korea, to get to this purpose.
The results of this study are as follows.
First, this study showed that students felt they were getting the education they needed from the school; while the school was providing the education to create a professional leader. At the same time, there is a need for more individualized education. They valued the systematic curriculum the most important in acquiring in-depth knowledge and leadership training and they would like to have the leadership training focused not only on the study of Taekwondo but also on all around life situations in general.
Second, there are differences between the satisfaction in contents of the curriculum. Students' demand is not satisfied, due to lack of systematic and scientific approach, although the contents of the curriculum in Taekwondo major is emphasized on practical technique and function. Most interested area is the administration and management, and most believed that they are evaluated as a leader based on management ability.
Finally, the level of dissatisfaction in curriculum management in study of Taekwondo is high. Facilities and tools for class are insufficient. They expect the curriculum should be able to provide the use the knowledge of Taekwondo and everyday life education harmoniously. There is an urgent need to provide the Taekwondo-for-all program, along with professional sports. They acknowledge that providing the solution to needs could be their responsibility.
