한국전쟁기 학술원의 창립과정과 한글간소화파동 = The course of establishing the National Academy of Sciences and the Hangeul Simplication Dispute during the Korean War era

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The intention of this article is to demonstrate how Rhee Syngman Regime established the material mobilization system during the Korean War era by taking advantage of anti-communist ideology. To understand this, I tried to focus on the relationship between the intellectuals who were involved in the foundation of National Academy of Sciences and the various control methods by the government forces.
This article is divided into three parts. The first part shows the course of establishing the academic research institutes by the intellectuals right after the national liberation from Japanese colonization. During the course of the establishment of Joseon Academy of Sciences, which led to the foundation of wartime scientific institute, the intellectuals around Baek Nam-woon wished building a new nation and the revolution of reality. However, during the course of the upheaval - after liberation, division of Korea into north and south, and then the outbreak of the Korean War -, these intellectuals greatly lost their ground and even exploited in the situation of competitive structure between the South and North Koreas.
In the second part, the passage of the Cultural Protection Act and the foundation of National Academy of Sciences are covered. The Cultural Protection Act was claimed for the purpose of guaranteeing the freedom of study and art, improving the status of the scientists and artists so that contribute to create and develop the national culture. But in fact, this law acted as another's instrument, for Rhee Syngman to establish a strong anti-communism system needed to his own presidential term extension.
In the last part, the role of National Academy of Sciences during the Hangeul Simplication Dispute was examined. The Academy was summoned to the Hangeul Simplication Dispute caused by Rhee Syngman authoritarian rule. In the process, not only the Academy was criticised for it, but also the members of the Academy were agitated internally, which frankly showed the relationship between the intellectuals and the political authorities, the former served as a puppet of the latter.
