Purpose: The present study was designed with the purposes of investigating the significant factors that may substantially influence the family sense of coherence among parents of children with disabilities. We also explore the sophisticated mechanisms between variables and the mediating effects. Method: A total of 396 parents of disabled children participated in this study. The children were in the age group 0 to 18 years. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used in the evaluation of the hypothesized model. Through latent mean analysis (LMA), differences between two parents groups (under vs. over school age) were examined. In addition, using the Sobel test, the mediating effects of couple collaboration and optimism of parents were examined. Results: First, social support, couple collaboration, and optimism of parents were significantly and positively associated with the family sense of coherence among the parents. Second, parents belonging to the group of children over school age appeared to have a higher level of family sense of coherence, than parents of children under school age. Third, no significant direct effect of the social support was found among the parents of children over school age. Fourth, the mediating effects of couple collaboration and optimism were significant in both parent groups. Conclusion: The implication of this study and limitation were discussed.
