      This thesis focuses on Sonwa(損窩) Choi, seokhang(崔錫恒, 1654-1724) in the late Joseon Dynasty. After examining his theory of literature, looked into the reality of literary creation.
      There are few data to confirm his literary theories. However, we can check through materials such as Hoeunjipseo(壺隱集序), Jehonggunchikbonraerokhu(題洪君則蓬萊錄後), Jejujangyuokgyejipseo(題朱長孺玉溪集序). The theory of poetry can be divided into theory of creation, theory of utility, and theory of criticism.
      He acknowledged the two creation methods, the natural style of cheongi(天機) and the refined form of ingong(人工), as meaningful creation theories on the same level. Also, he asserted the theory of realism creation. Regarding the works where the detailed description of the subject is important, he took the aspect of realism as a key indicator. He stated a theory of utility. It is not a linear theory of utility that examines the author's personality through the thoughts and expressions revealed on the surface of the work, but a multi-layered theory of utility that examines the personality and character of the author who created such thoughts and expressions in a complex way.
      On the other hand, the literary theory is as follows. While criticizing the new and ingenious sentences of Jangja(莊子) and Samacheon(司馬遷), which were admired by the jeonhuchilja(前後七子), he presented the six confucian classics that were plain and substantial as canon of prose.
      Among the works of poetry he created, attention was paid to impromptu poems written in the process of traveling or sightseeing. He was faithful to the realism by expressing the scene and image of the moment, while embodied various sights and situations encountered in the process of travel or sightseeing in a literary way.
