통일 준비를 위한 “사회 치유(Social Healing)” 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한 국가 공동체에서 다수의 구성원에게 큰 정신적 충격을 주는 현상으로서의 사회적 트라우마에 대한 대응은 일반적으로 두 가지이다. 첫째, 직, 간접적으로 그 트라우마의 희생자가 된 사람들에 대한 신체적, 정신적 상처를 의학적으로 치료하는 “개인치유”이다. 둘째, 진상규명, 가해자처벌, 배·보상, 기념사업 및 관련 문화예술작품 활동과 같은 활동을 하는 “사회적 대응”이다. 본 연구는 위안부, 제주 4.3, 전태일 분신, 광주 5.18 이라는 한국 사회가 가졌던 가장 큰 사회적 트라우마가 그 동안 한국 사회 안에서 어떤 방식으로 대응되고 치유하여 왔는가를 현장 방문 및 관련자 면담을 통하여 조사하고, 관련 제도들과 예술작품들을 분석하였다. 또한 북아일랜드, 아르헨티나, 남아프리카공화국, 독일의 4개 해외 사례 문헌 분석을 통하여 해외의 사회적 트라우마와 그에 대한 사회치유 노력의 내용들을 분석하였다. 이를 통하여 사회적 트라우마와 사회치유라는 개념을 좀 더 통합적, 융합적으로 만들었고, 그것을 토대로 한 사회가 사회적 트라우마를 얼마나 성공적으로 치유하였는가를 평가할 수 있는 사회치유 평가지표를 작성하였다. 본 연구의 최종적인 목표는 분단이라고 하는 민족 최대의 사회적 트라우마가 한국인들에게 어떤 영향을 미치고 있으며, 그것을 통일 과정 속에서 어떻게 치유해 나가야 하는가를 생각하는 것에 있었다. 따라서 앞에서 언급한 4개 한국 사회의 사회적 트라우마와 그 사회치유 과정 및 결과의 분석을 통하여 나온 개념 등을 분단과 통일에 적용하여 분단이 한국 사회에 끼친 영향, 사회치유 대상의 분류, 향후 분단 치유를 위한 과제 제안 등을 하였다. 사회적 트라우마들과 분단은 민족의 거대한 비극이지만, 이러한 한국 사회가 비극의 고통을 극복하면서 더 높은 수준의 민족공동체를 만들어 갈 수 있는 기회도 될 수 있다는 제안을 본 연구는 하고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In general, there are two types of response for the social trauma which gives huge psychological shock or trauma to the large number of people in the national community. First, "Personal Healing" is the medical method to treat scars on physically and for the people who are victimized by direct/indirect traumatic experiences. Second, "Social Response" is another types of healing method such activities as truth ascertainment, perpetrator punishment, compensation, commemoration business and related cultural and art works. This study researched major social trauma events in South Korea - Japanese army's Comfort Women Jeju 4.3 incident, Jeon Tae-il case, May 18 Gwangju Democratic Movement-through the site visit to each related institutions, stakeholder interview, and analyzing the related works of arts for investigating how our society dealing with those traumatic events in the response of healing. Also, we analyzed the content of international community's effort for social trauma healing throughout the literature review of the case of Northern Island, Argentina, South Africa and Germany.
