Recently metallic foam of Nickel-based super alloy (Inconel?HighTemp) is regarded as the prospective porous medium for DPF due the large specific area for the filtration and catalytic coating. Filtration efficiency and pressure drop between upstream and downstream of the DPF mostly depend on the exhaust gas flow properties and the micro-structural properties such as strut diameter and porosities. For modeling the filtration process, the micro-structural properties of the metallic foam are measured by using a 3D X-ray scope. And these parameters should be correlated with the porous media flow parameters such as permeability and Forchheimer coefficients evaluated from clean filter experiments. The some correlations arc examined and the best fit correlation suggested by Du Plessis is chosen for Inconel?HighTemp metallic foam.
