다문화교육 담당교사의 연수 프로그램 개발을 위한 조사연구 = A Study on Developing a Teacher Training Program for Multicultural Education -Focused on Gyeongsangnam-do-

Recently multicultural education has been gradually diffused in the school education. Hence proper training programs for multicultural education are urgently needed for the teachers who are in charge of such education. This study tried to investigate the educational needs for multicultural education in the school setting based on the theoretical backgrounds of multicultural education. Subjects for the research were 195 teachers at the elementary schools in Gyeongsangnam-do, who are in charge of multicultural education, or who had an experience to teach students from multicultural background. According to the research, teachers believed that they are lack of professional capacity to teach students from multicultural backgrounds, and that they need training programs for developing and expanding their skills and understandings. Regarding the recognition of multicultural education, stereotypes and prejudices are still prevalent in our textbooks, and multicultural education might aggravate social differentiation by focusing on separatism. They also pointed out that cooperative system had not been established, though it is essential for the members of multicultural family to cooperate each other in order to reinvigorate multicultural education.
