사회주의 유령과 존엄한 선택 -반디의 『고발』 분석- = The ghost of socialism and human dignity -An analysis of The Accusation by Bandi-

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Accusation, a collection of seven short stories written between 1989 and December 1995 by the North Korean writer Bandi. The book was published in 2016, and has been translated into 18 languages. In 2018, Bandi’s collection of poems was published in South Korea in the Korean language. Based on his short stories and poems, my paper analyzes how North Korea and its people are perceived by Bandi, who still lives in that country. The analysis focuses on the depiction of North Korea by a North Korean, not a defector or a foreigner. Bandi was described as the North’s Solzhenitsyn by an association that supports North Korean defectors, but his works have different characteristics to those of Solzhenitsyn, and various distinctive layers of meaning. His short stories display a high level of literary sophistication, and affirm his talent as a writer. They are also important in enhancing our understanding of North Korean society and the need for the upholding of human rights.
